Who we are and what we do:

The Tennessee Department of Treasury impacts the lives of Tennesseans every day. Treasury is responsible for many of the financial operations of state government, including managing more than $100 billion in assets through its various investment programs. We administer the State's Retirement Program, RetireReadyTN, which combines the state pension plan, Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System, and the State's Deferred Compensation plan. Treasury serves all Tennesseans by helping to educate and empower them to make smart financial choices, and by providing public-serving programs in the areas of college savings, financial literacy, unclaimed property, criminal injuries compensation, and more.

Job Overview:

The position manages a team who perform critical activities related to processing requests for retirement benefits, refunds, death processing, and various other functions. Also, this position oversees the workflows and queues, ensuring that each process is worked. This team member serves as a point of contact for internal and external questions related to retirement benefit processes and responds to analytic data from other program areas. Additionally, this position assists in recommending and testing updates to the retirement processing system.

At the present time, this position is primarily remote, with occasional required in-person meetings. It is anticipated that the department will regularly utilize its downtown Nashville office on a hybrid schedule in the future. Job location is subject to change at the discretion of the Department. The successful candidate should live in Tennessee and provide sufficient internet connection.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process payrolls for the Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System.
  • Oversee quality control for the Financial Services team.
  • Maintain the daily operation of applicable work queues and assigns work based on priority.
  • Evaluate and recommend improvement or development of systems.
  • Identify training gaps and coordinate training and technical assistance.
  • Evaluate job performance of staff, record monthly metrics, and participate in the hiring process for vacant positions.
  • Participate actively with senior leadership in strategic business planning and development of both long-range and short-term goals.
  • Coordinate the activities of staff with other areas of Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System.
  • Assist with other duties, as assigned, by management.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in accounting
  • Two years of successful full-time experience independently managing projects or tasks

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Retirement Plan Associate designation (Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) program) or Certified Financial Planner (CFP)
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Thorough knowledge of retirement laws and procedures
